At The Body Spot we offer many different types of massage. One of my personal favorites to receive is what we call the “Relaxation Massage”. It’s the perfect service if you are looking to alleviate stress or as the name says, simply relax.
The techniques used for our Relaxation Massage include repetitive Swedish strokes and nurturing holds. Swedish strokes are light gliding strokes done along the muscles in the direction of blood returning to the heart. A “hold” is when the massage therapist rests his or her hands comfortably on the receiver in one place for a longer duration of time. Both these techniques may help to invoke a sense of deep tranquility and therefore stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system – the system of rest and digest.
Your mind and body are intimately connected. When your mind is able to relax so is your body. This makes it easier for the therapist to manually release tension and adhesions from your muscles and connective tissues.
I highly recommend pairing this massage service with a lavender essential oil diffusion. The smell of lavender helps to promote relaxation and may help to alleviate migraines, headaches, nervous tension and anxiety. Lavender not for you?
